Hello! I am so glad you are here.
My name is Whit, and I have a passion for helping professionals with chronic illness navigate their path to a fulfilled life.
My story
Growing up, I was a healthy kid. I played various sports, but found my true passion in dance. The ability to move my body and push it to the extreme was so healing for me; it was a way to express myself when I couldn’t find the words. My body was amazing during these years-- I never imagined I would be using mobility aids by age 30.
When I first became sick a few years ago, I began to experience the harsh realities of being chronically ill. On the outside, I appeared to be a healthy 30-year-old-- doctors struggled to make sense, or even believe my symptoms. I was being medically gaslit, and one doctor even went as far to tell my husband I was making myself sick. I felt defeated, and scared. I knew my body was shutting down, and if I was going to be around to see my three kiddos grow up, I had to fight like hell.
And so I did.
I turned to Google and Facebook groups to find the answers. I learned how to advocate for myself and armed myself with knowledge. Eventually, I found doctors who were willing to listen and I finally received diagnoses of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Dysautonomia, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and autoimmune-mediated small fiber neuropathy.
I thought a diagnosis would be relieving- and it was, to an extent. However, it was just the beginning. I now had to learn to juggle mom-life, a career, and my health. I believe this part of the journey is ever changing with the fluctuations of life, and it can be a very lonely place as many of us are trying to figure it out on our own.
For the past 10 years, I have worked as an eating disorder specialist and helped many individuals heal from their eating disorder and live a fulfilled life. With my lived experience as someone who is chronically ill and my education and experience as a therapist, I developed The Spoon Coach to help people just like you find their peace in the midst of chronic illness.
